Special and exotic…

Blogging has been a bit of a leap for me. (My post today has been inspired by my friend, Michelle. You should check out her blog at http://michellegd.com/) I have been nervous and worried about it. I certainly don’t need more things in my life that I feel I need to get done but just don’t ever materialize. Recently I have been getting back on the path of reminding myself to go with the flow and be in the present moment.

This has been helping me combat the frustration and anger that I have been having with myself lately. I was really making great strides with my new series of art work, Love Notes, but then as always, my series in “Regular Life” got in the way as it always does. The balancing act of being a wife, mother and artist is always there behind the scenes. Right now I am in a phase in my life where I must choose my children and family over my art work and that can be very tough at times but I know it is the right thing for me to do. I know in the future I will be able to get back to my art more fully and if I don’t take the time now to be present with my children I will miss all the little moments.

So I share with you a little moment that was dear to me and reminded me how much I know my children are here to be my mirrors and my teachers….

After a lazy morning, we finally got around to fixing our leaky kitchen faucet which needed replacing for sometime and clean out under the sink. As we were putting everything away this is a conversation I had with my daughter:

img_6366Daughter: “What’s that?”
Me: “Orchid food”
Daughter: “What are orchids?”
Me: “Special exotic flowers that I loved that were difficult to take care of.”
Daughter: “But why don’t you have them anymore?”
Me: “Instead, I now have special exotic children that I love and are hard to take care of.”

After talking with another friend today, I was reminded that I am making the right choices – children over art. Another way to say it is that my art right now might just be raising wonderful children with patience (which by the way, I feel I need to have tattooed to me, maybe on my arm or something!) I will be able to do both well, just at a slower pace. With all that said, I can happily say that I HAVE found a little time to do some art. I have been able to start to put the clouds back on my walls after all the renovations that happened last year. I also got some canvases started to go along with the sculptures I am working on. So, smalls steps eventually make big strides with patience.
